The House

The Lake House bed and breakfast is a restored 1930’s fishing and hunting lodge, tucked away on Big Lake Henderson.

The Lake House is located just outside of historic downtown Inverness, Florida, USA, a quaint and lovely town of 7,200 residents. Inverness is home to a renovated movie theater, the Valerie Theater Cultural Center, and the Historic Old Courthouse which is home to the Citrus County Historical Society. Historic buildings are identified with a plaque and a short description of their history. The city has many parks and hosts numerous events and festivals each year.

We boast nearby access to the 46 mile long Withlacoochee State Trail used for biking, hiking and skating. Bicycle rentals are available near the trail access points.

We are about 1 hour 30 minutes to both Orlando, FL and Tampa, FL; you can stay at the Lake House and enjoy short trips to visit the theme parks or attend cultural events in the big cities and then return to peace and quiet at the Lake House.

Big Lake Henderson is only one of many lakes in the area where you can enjoy gorgeous sunsets, fishing, and boating. Kayaks and canoes are often seen on the Withlacoochee River.

Citrus County, our county, is a bird watcher’s paradise. Nearby Fort Cooper State Park offers a short trail through a hardwood hammock that loops past Lake Holathlikaha. Observe shore birds and sea birds from the Fort Island Gulf Beach and the Cross Florida Greenway.

The Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park (about 30 minutes away) showcases the wild side of Florida with endangered Florida panther, red wolves, manatees, and whooping cranes, plus black bears, bobcats, and of course, alligators. The natural spring bowl is home to large numbers of fresh and saltwater fish: large jacks, snapper, snook, and others. The park also hosts a monthly bird walk.

For golfers, there are 3 golf courses in Inverness and 39 golf courses within 20 miles.

The Citrus County Speedway and Track hosts demolition derbies, pro truck lap races, super late model 50 lap races, open wheel modified lap races, school bus figure 8 races, and many more!

The Citrus County Fairgrounds host multiple events during the year including the county fair and Citrus Stampede Rodeo.
